The role:

The VAT compliance expert is the part of the team in charge of VAT Compliance for multiple European VAT returns, Intrastats and EC Sales Lists.

Main areas of responsibility:

Core Service delivery. Monthly preparation of multiple European VAT reports, Intrastats and EC Sales Lists including: reviewing invoices for compliance, reconciling VAT returns to SAP Accounts, liaising with markets or fiscal representatives to confirm VAT postings are correct, analyze transactional postings for legislative compliance/errors;
Sound knowledge of general EU VAT rules – triangulation, EU Sales lists and Intrastat with ability to train others;
Expert Tasks. Assist Team Lead to manage the governance process & related controls. Participate in process modification/testing/process automation;
Identify training gaps and provide continuous SAP and process training to GBS Accounting and Finance team to enhance others knowledge of the processes and system matters;
Provide expert advice on relevant SAP modules to both internal and external customers, provide possible solution;
Process Improvement. Work with the Team Leads and Specialists on process improvement projects and supporting Team Lead in delivery of SAP testing for VAT;
Responsible for embedding continuous improvement mindset across the team, leading Specialists in completing projects to improve processes within the remit of department/team;
Control and Compliance. Perform the assigned JSOX/operational controls in accordance with the internal documentation. Escalate all controls failures and ensure mitigation actions are in place for each failure.

What are we looking for?

You as a professional:

University degree (Accounting or Finance);
At least 3 years experience in a multinational company (preferably in a Shared Service Centre multifunctional role (i.e. AR/AP/CM/GL);
Experience of preparing EU VAT returns, preferably in a finance environment. Supervisory experience desirable;
Strong command of English Language (oral and written);
Understand VAT department end to end processes, and ability to understand wider impact across the GBS;
A professional qualification of ACCA, CPA, etc. is a plus;
VAT technical certification preferred but not essential;
Competent Microsoft Excel user;
SAP experience preferred.
